What are the Pros and Cons of setting up a Children’s franchise and which one is for me?

Each year, people come to us and ask if it is better to start a business as a children’s franchise or start their own business. Starting a new children’s activity business on your own is a big move. It can be expensive and can take time before you see a profit.

Here’s the good, the bad and ugly pros and cons of choosing between a franchise and setting up on your own. 

So let’s start with the…

Pros:

When buying into an established franchise, the work has already been done for you. 

The product (ie the structured classes) have been written, tried and tested by many before you. This saves you hours and hours in time and energy. 

You have the benefit of professionally designed resources that instantly give you credibility. 

You are joining a well-known registered trade-marked brand that is recognised in the industry. 

All your lesson plans, marketing materials and business tools are already created for you which saves hours of your time. If you were starting up on your own, you would have to write everything yourself.  

As a franchisee, you can take advantage of all additional support which includes forums with other coaches, meet ups and franchisee motivation training and coaching call. If you were setting up alone, you would have to start this from stretch. 

And now for the dreaded…

Cons:

Often a franchisees will buy a Postcode which can run into the thousands.  Relax Kids doesn’t sell postcodes as we encourage coaches to work together in community rather than competition.

As the hard work has been done for you, a children’s franchise can be a costly investment with ongoing franchise fees. At Relax Kids, we want you as a coach to succeed and so have made this an extremely low investment franchise with a low monthly fee. 

As you are under a brand, you are often subjected to many rules and guidelines in terms of teaching methods and running your business. This can be quite restricting. At Relax Kids, although we ask that you run the 7 steps in the order they have been created (as the system works), we have very few restrictions and rules. We want you to make this your business and so you are very flexible and free. 

Often franchises have very little autonomy, creativity and control over their franchise business which can be very constricting for a new business owner who has dreams and ideas of where they want to take it. At Relax Kids we actively encourage you to be individual, follow your dreams and make the business your own.  

As a franchisee, you may be required to share your finances with your franchisor. This can feel quite restricting. At Relax Kids, we would never do this. You are responsible for your own accounts and what is in them is between you and the tax man.
