Making it manageable for children
Helping children set goals and resolutions in January is a great way to build personal skills, will power and a feeling of achievement.
However, it is so easy to set and forget out goals and new years resolutions.
Here is an example of how chopping goals into bite size pieces can make it easier to achieve them.
There was a lady who was so scared to pick up the phone to get a job. She was advised to pick it up and dial one single digit and put it down and then next time try two etc. in a little while she slowly plucked up the courage and it got easier and she was able to dial the full number.
Instead of beating ourselves up about our goals, why not try one tiny step. ie if you don’t fancy running for 30 min go out for 1 min, if you don’t have time to do a full yoga class, do one stretch today or eat one good thing or drink one glass of water and praise yourself.
Encourage children to tackle the elephant in bite size pieces They could try one small thing and then have a break, relax and treat themselves and then try again.
