Positive thinking can make an enormous difference to not only how you view your life, but the way you behave and the things that happen to you.
Like attracts like, and if you think and act positively, positive things will happen in your life.
For example, if you can learn to feel positive and confident about yourself, that might give you the courage to sign up to that challenging training course you have been thinking about, which might lead to a new job with better opportunities.
You might also have made a new best friend on the training course. Or your courage might even have inspired an old friend to make a positive change in their own life. The effects of positive thinking and action are endless! You could have a ripple-like effect that could change the course of countless peoples lives for the better.
In a Relax Kids class we use affirmations to teach children about positivity and learn how to love and accept themselves.
Affirmations are positive words or phrases that you repeat to yourself to improve your self-esteem or make you feel better about something. e.g.I am calm and confident or I am OK or I am beautiful inside and out. By saying positive things about themselves out loud, children will learn to believe the things they are saying, and be able to take on that quality.
So I say… so I believe… so I behave.
Here are some affirmations you can try at home with your family. Pick one affirmation each day at repeat it to yourself a few times in the mirror. Children might feel silly at first, but watch how their confidence grows. You could even have a go at making up your own affirmations!
I accept myself just the way I am
I am special, unique and valuable
I am deeply and completely loved
I am safe
I am a wonderful person
